Alt text
Describe meaningful images in alt text, and give decorative images an empty alt.
Why it matters
Empty alt tells screen readers to skip it. A missing alt makes some readers announce the file name, and descriptive alt on decoration is just noise.
How to apply it
- Write what the image communicates, not 'image of'
- Use alt="" for decoration
- For charts, state the key takeaway
Common mistakes
- Missing alt attributes
- File names as alt text
